Climbing the stairs is simply about if one still can walk in one stretch without having to stop due to breathlessness or not. Accordingly, it is distinguished between techniques without pauses/walking at a stretch and techniques with pauses.
General notes on climbing stairs
  1. Walk slowly with one supporting hand on the banister.
  2. Bent your upper body slightly forward while walking (beyond the centre of gravity of the leading foot).
  3. Adhere to the controlled "walking rhythm": e.g. stop for a moment with two feet on every step or take 2 or 4 steps without interruption and exhale by pursed-lip breathing or through a short straw.
  4. If walking up several floors, pause on each floor and slow down respiratory rate (recover) to 4 breaths maximum. Never walk all the way up without intensity control. It occurs quickly that one realises that things are over and done with when taking the next flight of stairs.
